Wine tourist centre launched in Florensac Languedoc

Thursday, 24 Jul, 2007 0

Inaugurated in early July, this 900m2 two storey complex is the brain child of the Florensac co-operative winery. The site includes a contemporary looking wine shop and Bistrot d’Alex, a brasserie offering simple and tasty Mediterranean cuisine, made from local fare.

Level 1
The wine shop is designed around interactive terminals focusing on different wine themes (local and international whites, rosés and reds, blended wines…), offering educational and fun information. These allow visitors to learn all about grape varieties, their characteristics, winemaking, and to taste, in a professional manner, the range produced by the vintners of  Florensac. Hosts will assist customers in their discovery of the wine selection. The wine shop is designed to demystify wine and to offer a simple, easy going approach to tasting. Regular customers can gain direct access to their favourite products in the self-service area.

•Bistrot d’Alex serves seafood (produce from the nearby Agde fish market and shellfish from Thau), meat and poultry from Aveyron (barbecued or cooked with a high-tech Labesse-Giraudon rotisserie). The restaurant is overseen by Chef Alexandre Fabre in association with Jean-Claude Fabre, who previously worked together at Chez Léonce. The wines from the Florensac winery, served by the glass or by the bottle, will be practically available for their cellar door price.

Level 2
The complex is completed by a reception hall, seminar room…, with a terrace and kitchen for Léonce catering, directly overlooking a modern barrel cellar, and a beautiful garden (2 hectares are being landscaped) for children, families and summer barbecues!

Entertainment-wise, a number of activities are scheduled: events dedicated to “Meeting the Winemakers”, cooking classes, and a virtual guided tour on the big screen of the winemaking cellar and a panorama film on the vineyard landscape of Florensac and Etang de Thau, as well as the Mediterranean sea…

The brasserie is open seven days a week, in July and August, from 11.30 am to 5pm. Outside of this period Bistrot Alex is open from Tuesday through to Saturday. Tel: 04 67 77 03 05. The wine shop is open from Monday to Saturday. Tel: 04 67 77 00 20
