Winter Olympics athletes must arrive on charter flights
Beijing Winter Olympics athletes will be allowed to arrive in China only on special charter flights due to the country’s strict Covid rules. Games organising committee official Zhang Liang said athletes and officials will be separated from general airline traffic and will go into a ‘closed loop’ bubble for the duration of the Games.
Zhang said the Covid situation remains ‘complicated’ with Omicron present in 50 countries. About 15 inbound flights a day will bring athletes and officials to Beijing.
The Winter Olympics begin in early February.
