Winter sun is still the most popular break as the UK turns colder but city breaks and skiing have both increased in popularity this year.

According to ABTA’s Winter Holiday Trends 2013/14 survey, 40% are planning a winter sun break this year compared to a similar 39% last year.

But city breaks are up 8%, with 39% planning a city break this winter and skiing is up 5% with 15% planning a ski trip.

The most popular ski resort for Brits is Espace Killy (France), closely followed by Trois Vallées (France), Sauze d’Oulx (Italy), Kitzbuhel (Austria) and St Anton (Austria).

The Canary Islands are this year’s favourite destination for British winter sun seekers, with Greece, Malta and Tunisia also ranking high.

Further afield, it’s the Caribbean, Mexico and Dubai attracting winter holidaymakers.
