Wisconsin becoming snowmobile capital of world
Wisconsin’s Northwoods has become a regional and even national draw for snowmobilers and their families, according to travelwisconsin.com.
The reasons: abundant snowfall, extensive trail systems and numerous snowmobile-oriented hotels and resorts.
“The state’s status as a snowmobiling destination will be further enhanced by two new laws: a 55-mph nighttime speed limit and an 88 decibel noise limit,” says the site.
Wisconsin’s trail systems totals 22,000 miles.
One of its best-known areas for riding in the snow is Eagle River, often known as the Snowmobile Capital of the World.
It’s also known as the site of the World Championship Snow derby, which draws 50,000 fans each January. Luxury resorts include the Derby inn, the Wild Eagle Lodge and the Chanticleer.
