Wizz Air UK eyes US flights

Monday, 26 Jan, 2026 0

The UK unit of Hungary based Wizz Air has applied for clearance to operate US flights with the US Department of Transportation.

Wizz Air UK filed for a permit this month to operate US-bound flights.

The filing, under the UK-US Open Skies agreement, states it would initially operate charter flights UK and then expand to scheduled flights.

It hasn’t disclosed what US cities it is considering.

The airline is requesting quick approval to start operations ‘as soon as possible.’

It says granting it would lead to ‘enhanced competition’ for the benefit of travellers.

In the past CEO József Váradi stated transatlantic flights wasn’t a priority, with the airline group focused on the Middle East and Asia.

It is now seemingly changing its focus.

The Wizz Air fleet consists of three A321XLR aircraft which would allow it to fly nonstop to a large number of US cities.
