Woman dies after getting ‘entangled’ in baggage carousel
A woman was pronounced dead at Chicago O’Hare International Airport after getting caught up in the gears of a baggage carousel.
The tragedy happened early on Thursday at Terminal 5.
The Chicago Fire Department said the 57-year old somehow got ‘pinned in machinery.’
Emergency responders were called but she could not be saved.
Chicago Fire Department officials said she became ‘entangled in the conveyer belt system used to move baggage.’
It happened in an area off limits to the public. She was not an airport worker.
Chicago Police said CCTV footage showed the woman ‘entering an unoccupied restricted area’ about five hours before she was pronounced dead.
The area has been declared a crime scene, CPD said.
