World is invited to follow the torch
VisitBritain is using digital and social media to capitalise on the tour of the Olympic torch around the UK.
In partnership with Olympic sponsor Samsung, Super Bloggers will be joining the Samsung torch relay truck on key dates of the journey.
The tourism agency has also developed an interactive map on visitbritain.com and Love UK so potential visitors can ‘Follow the Torch’ as it makes its journey within 10 miles of 95% of Britain.
The map uses Google Street View technology so followers can see images and explore torch locations.
Destination content will be added each day as the journey progresses and live tweets will be added giving snippets of tourist information.
VisitBritain’s Love UK Facebook page now has nearly 800,000 fans and has recently been named one of the biggest brand pages in the UK ahead of Cadbury’s and Starbucks.
