World’s biggest indoor water attraction opens
Germany is now home to what is claimed to be the world’s biggest indoor water attraction, with a lagoon, a rainforest – and, The Guardian reports, some 900 sunbeds.
The theme park, called Tropical Islands, is near the small town of Brand, in former East Germany, and is sited in a 100-metre-high hall that was originally used to house airships.
Colin Au, the entrepreneur behind the project, said guests would be able to swim in the “sea” and sleep on the beach in hired tents.
The Guardian quotes him as saying: “Our main target is Berliners. It is very cold in Berlin for nine months of the year. Most people can’t fly to Majorca or Cuba for the weekend. They come here instead.”
He added that the attraction will be open 24 hours a day and will have a nightclub.
Mr Au reportedly added: “We have decided to bring some sun to the Germans, After all, the weather here can be so depressing.”
