WTO to discuss tourism’s contribution to poverty alleviation at WSSD

The World Tourism Organization will be holding a side event on ‘Tourism and its Contribution to Poverty Alleviation’ at the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Side Event will take place in the Sandton Convention Centre (WSSD venue), Ballroom 1, on Friday, 30 August, from 1:00 to 2:45 p.m.

WTO is also supporting a conference on ‘Responsible Tourism in Destinations’ that will be held in Cape Town, South Africa, 21-23 August 2002, prior to the Summit. This conference aims at examining the challenges of sustainable tourism development and the responsibilities at the local level.
