WTTC: EU Digital Covid Certificate will unlock international travel
The World Travel & Tourism Council applauds the upcoming launch of the EU’s Digital Covid certificate, and sees it as a catalyst to restarting international travel in a meaningful way.
It will be one of the keys to unlocking the door to international travel, it says.
Virginia Messina, Senior Vice President WTTC said: "WTTC welcomes the agreement reached on the EU Digital CovidD Certificate, which has now been given the green light by all member states. This new certificate could save thousands of businesses and millions of jobs across Europe and beyond."
"It will see all 27 member states welcoming vaccinated travellers and those with proof of a negative test or a positive antibody test in time for the peak summer season, which will provide a massive and much-needed boost."
The WTTC hopes countries will avoid adding their own travel curbs for citizens of specific countries.
"We call on all member states to have the certificate up and running by 1 July with no extra restrictions. The European Commission must be applauded for its efforts in launching this major initiative, which could be the driving force behind the resurrection of travel and tourism," Messina added.
