Yet another coin tossing passenger in China delays flight
The peculiar Chinese custom for tossing coins into the engine of commercial jets has landed another flier in trouble.
A woman was detained and China Southern Airlines flight CZ8427 was delayed more than one hour at Nanning Airport.
The ‘good luck’ ritual had the opposite effect delaying dozens of passengers.
The airline said the first-time flier did it to pray for blessings.
She could now be facing a hefty fine.
It is the fifth time this year coin tossing has delayed flights.
"Please don’t be superstitious. Abide by aviation safety regulations when taking planes and don’t throw things," China Southern said in a statement.
Earlier this month, a woman was detained for 10 days for doing the same thing and a man who threw two coins in the engine of a Shenzhen Airlines plane settled a fine of 50,000 yuan last month.
