The Nassau Guardian reports MSC plans to build a new dedicated pier and terminal with commercial amenities, plus a beach club and a visitor center, spending about $450 million. Bahamas Prime Minister Philip Davis just announced the project in Freeport. Davis called it a ‘serious expansion with real scale.’ The cruise company is also investing about $50 million of the money in Freeport Harbour to facilitate upgrades to the port infrastructure and the retail village. “The project is designed as a multi-user facility, supporting operational flexibility and positioning Grand Bahama to capture greater cruise activity and higher passenger volumes,” PM Davis said. There will be new stores, and food and beverage outlets, plus entertainment along with related infrastructure. -

In the presence of the Dominican Republic Minister of Tourism, David Collado, the cruise line committed its year-round operation from a brand-new homeport in La Romana, in the south of the Dominican Republic for the long-term. This is the first time MSC Cruises has offered year-round sailings in the Southern Caribbean. MSC Opera will operate a brand-new itinerary, operating weekly departures, and guests can opt to book a seven-night sailing or extend their cruise to a back-to-back 14-night ‘butterfly’ cruise. Sailings are already available to book, with the first cruise departing on 16 November 2026. For full itinerary information, visit MSC Cruises’ website here. One of the highlights of this new itinerary is the call to Catalina Island, close to the shores of the Dominican Republic, offering guests an exclusive nature reserve experience.
