For hikers interested in history, routes can be arranged to encounter cultural treasures such as Al Marzouqui, a rock formation etched with 4,000-year-old pictograms as well as dinosaur fossilised teeth found in the Hijaz Mountains.   AKUN, which means ‘to be’, is centred on living in the moment and seizing the natural world through exploration and adventure. The brand is closely connected to the local communities, working to develop conservation and cultural trails and share the incredible stories of the ancient land and its people. Many of the guides that will be leading hikes are local Saudis that descend from the Jihana tribe, armed with knowledge and ancient stories from the area.   Red Sea Global (RSG), the multi-project developer behind the world’s most ambitious regenerative tourism destinations, The Red Sea and Amaala, has revealed Thuwal Private Retreat, an exclusive, buy-out only island destination set to welcome guests next year.   Located on a pristine 1.7-hectare sandy islet in a spectacular coral archipelago on the Red Sea coast, the intimate destination offers stunning natural beauty complemented by discreet architecture, offering ultimate luxury in complete privacy.   The island resort boasts a spacious main three-bedroom villa, three one-bedroom suites, a beach club, gym and wellness centre. The national flag carrier joins forces with Red Sea Global and daa International to deliver on promise of Vision 2030

  Red Sea Global (RSG), the multi-project developer behind the world’s most ambitious regenerative tourism destinations, The Red Sea and Amaala, has today signed a memorandum of understanding with Saudi Arabian Airlines (SAUDIA) and daa International, the operator of Red Sea International (RSI) airport, that will see SAUDIA become the first airline to operate in and out of the Red Sea International airport (RSI).   RSI is on track to open this year along with the first three resorts at The Red Sea destination. Initially it will open for domestic flights to and from Riyadh and later Jeddah, before expanding to handle international flights from 2024.   “In 2016, His Royal Highness, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, set out a vision for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. A vision for a thriving country, one that was recognized as a global hub, where people from all around the world would come to experience the best of Saudi culture, hospitality and nature,” said John Pagano, Group CEO of Red Sea Global.   “When the first commercial flight lands at Red Sea International, it won’t just be a point of personal pride for Red Sea Global. It will be a milestone moment for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in making that vision a reality. It is fitting, therefore, that the Kingdom’s flag carrier, SAUDIA, will be first to operate from our destination,” said John Pagano, Group CEO, Red Sea Global.”   The agreement will see SAUDIA commence regular scheduled services to and from RSI. It also provides a framework for the three organizations to undertake joint research on the use of Lower Carbon Aviation Fuel (LCAF) and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) at Red Sea International Airport. The use of electric vertical take-off and landing jets (eVTOL) to reduce emissions from air travel to The Red Sea will also be evaluated.   Capt. One of its five solar farms is located near Six Senses Southern Dunes, The Red Sea, which will be the first hotel to open at The Red Sea in the coming months. The utilities at the resort are already being powered by the solar farm.   Two additional hotels will be open by the end of the year and by early 2025, 16 hotels and Red Sea International airport will be completed.   Upon full completion in 2030, the destination will comprise 50 resorts, offering up to 8,000 hotel rooms and more than 1,000 residential properties across 22 islands and six inland sites. The destination will also include luxury marinas, golf courses, entertainment, F&B, and leisure facilities.   Phase One of Amaala – focused on the Triple Bay masterplan – is well underway, with the first guests set to be welcomed in early 2025. It will consist of eight resorts offering upwards of 1,200 hotel keys. Once complete, Amaala will be home to more than 3,900 hotel rooms across 29 hotels, and approximately 1,200 luxury residential villas, apartments, and estate homes, supporting high-end retail, fine dining, wellness, and recreational facilities.

The hotel was officially opened in September 2021 and is an advocate for training young Saudi talent entering the hospitality sector.         The hotel is powered by RSG’s wider vision to run all operations via 100 percent renewable energy and deliver a 30 percent net conservation benefit by 2040 through the protection and enhancement of key habitats crucial to biodiversity.   Turtle Bay Hotel makes optimal use of all natural resources. For instance, strategies are in place to ensure zero waste in sent to landfill and we eliminated single-use plastics, replacing non-recyclable packaging work in parallel with circular processes to prioritize recycling and reuse.
