A group of determined British travel industry professionals have just returned from G Adventures’ G Trek for Good challenge, raising more than £40,000 after completing the iconic Camino de Santiago in northern Spain.
Taking place from 13-20 April 2026, the 100km trek saw participants hike one of the world’s most famous pilgrimage routes, navigating long walking days and varied terrain, all whilst carrying their own heavy gear, all in support of two life-changing organisations.
Funds raised, up more than 50% compared to last year’s total, will be split equally between Planeterra – G Adventures’ non-profit partner that uses community tourism to change lives globally – and ABTA LifeLine, which provides financial and emotional support to UK travel industry colleagues in need.
The group followed a section of the historic Camino de Santiago which finished at the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Santiago de Compostela Cathedral in Galicia – a fitting finale to a week defined by resilience and shared purpose.
Brian Young, Managing Director EMEA at G Adventures, said: “The Camino de Santiago is a must-do trek for many hikers around the world, but taking it on with our travel industry colleagues, all united by a shared goal, made this year’s G Trek for Good incredibly special. It challenged us physically and mentally, but the camaraderie and determination shown by everyone involved was inspiring.
“Raising more than £40,000 is an incredible achievement and a testament to the generosity and commitment of the UK travel trade. Every step taken on the Camino will now help create meaningful impact – supporting community tourism projects around the world through Planeterra and providing vital assistance to our colleagues through ABTA LifeLine.”
This year’s challenge marked the fifth G Trek for Good group to-date, reflecting the continued importance of the initiative and the UK travel industry’s commitment to giving back.
Since launching in 2019, G Trek for Good has become a key fixture in the UK travel trade calendar, bringing together industry partners, agents and operators for a shared challenge that combines adventure with meaningful impact. G Trek for Good has now raised more than £187,000 for Planeterra and ABTA LifeLine, with previous treks taking place in Colombia’s Lost City, Morocco’s Mount Toubkal, Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro and Peru’s Choquequirao.
Trudie Clements, Director at ABTA LifeLine, added: “It has been a privilege to spend seven unforgettable days trekking alongside an extraordinary group of people, all united by a shared purpose: raising funds for Planeterra and ABTA LifeLine – and together, we delivered.
“The funds raised will make a meaningful and lasting difference to people’s lives. Our sincere thanks go to G Adventures for their continued support of LifeLine, and to the trekkers – now pilgrims – whose generosity of time, energy and passion made this journey so impactful.”
Plans are already underway for G Trek for Good 2027, with the next destination to be announced later this year. Industry members interested in taking part can register their interest with Stu Darnley: [email protected]
