31 ABTA agents bankrupt in 2002
ABTA has confirmed that 31 of its member agents ceased trading in 2002, a decrease from 2001.
In a year that was marred by political and economic uncertainty, 31 ABTA agents ceased trading, down from 37 in 2001. Last year’s figure is an increase on 2000 when 22 agents went out of business.
Two travel agents that won’t be seeing in the New Year are Birchmoor Limited and AFS Travel, which both ceased trading over Christmas.
Birchmoor Ltd, which traded as Camelot Travel in London, was declared bankrupt on 20 December. The New Malden-based AFS Travel, which also traded as Cruisesavers in Glasgow, ceased trading on 27 December.
Clients that have bookings with either firm will be offered a full refund or can continue with their holiday under ABTA’s financial protection scheme. Customers should contact the credit control departments of the operator with whom their holiday was booked.
