According to a survey by VisitBritain, 70% of people holidaying in the next two weeks will holiday in England.

The organisation, responsible for promoting in-bound tourism to Britain, questioned 1,000 adults in a phone poll. It found 23% were going on holiday in the next two weeks. Of these people only 22% were planning to go overseas.

The survey also found that most people travelling in England (43%) were visiting cities, while 22% were going to the seaside, and 22% to the countryside.

VisitBritain embarked on a £4 million domestic marketing campaign on St Georges Day in April. The campaign included television and magazine advertising, which is being monitored by hits on the website and calls received by the call centre.

A spokesperson for VisitBritain told TravelMole that the recent spell of good weather in England was encouraging people to stay at home.
