A guide to taxi fares across the world

Monday, 27 Jan, 2011 0

Taxi prices are quite confusing throughout the world and these varying taxi rates are a menace for the travelers wanting to make an accurate budget for their tours. You are never sure about the expenses involved in transportation. To facilitate the travelers, www.priceoftravel.com has furnished the taxi rates from over 100 different cities across the globe.

To make the procedure less complicated, www.priceoftravel.com decided to follow a typical price range of a 3 kilometer (about 2-mile) trip in each location. Instead of considering the average prices, we used price ranges because most cities have different prices with each taxi company. Moreover, the price structures are likely to be changed at night or on weekend in many cities.

The rate of the taxi fare mentioned below ranges from the cheapest to most expensive and some of the results are really surprising. The models of the taxis around the world are quite similar to each other with the exception of the junker taxis used in India and the Mercedes taxis found in parts of Europe. Taxis in Bangkok are all air-conditioned and are almost similar to the all late models of Toyota, but surprisingly the taxi fare is quite less in comparison to the most expensive cities.

Some things you must know about world taxi prices

– The prices mentioned above indicate metered prices, though there are some cities where taxi companies charge their own rates.
– If you are a tourist, there is a high probability that the meters will be “broken” or unavailable.
– The above figures are related to in-the-city rides. However, many airports charge an additional surcharge in one or both directions.
– Some cities charge extra at night or during weekends so the overall range tends to be higher in those cases.
– Costs for waiting or standing still and typical traffic situation vary from one city to another, causing the hike in price range.

However, it is still difficult to research, even if all companies in city implement a fixed price structure because many taxi drivers play several tricks in the meters to con the passengers. So always be aware of such situation, especially in the airport, since worst incidents most of the time involves airport taxis.
