A quarter of Brits escape the weather
A quarter of Brits will be driven abroad on holiday by the recent dismal weather, according to a new report from the Jamaica Tourist Board.
The survey, which quizzed 2,000 people in the UK, found just 24% decided to go abroad to escape the rain and cold. But the temperamental weather affects people over the age of 50 more as 31% cited this as the key reason for choosing a foreign location.
The weather is not the only thing to drive people to exotic climes. Some five per cent of Britons said they were just desperate to get away from road, rail and tube delays in the UK.
Some 66% of people will take holidays abroad this summer, taking advantage of some of the best deals in the market for years.
Almost half of those surveyed, 46%, said cost governed their decision when choosing a holiday destination. This is particularly true for teenagers (61%), while those over 50 clearly have more money to spend with only 16% saying cost was a major factor.
According to the survey, 38% of people want to travel to foreign climates to sample more exotic food and culture.
