AA rolls out new transcontinental aircraft
American Airlines is taking off with new Airbus A321T aircraft, signaling a move to three classes of service for the first time on coast-to-coast domestic routes.
The new aircraft offers fully reclining lie-flat seats in First and Business Class and every seat has personal entertainment, universal AC power port and a USB port, and access to Gogo Wi-Fi.
The new aircraft will initially be rolled out on the New York (JFK) to Los Angeles (LAX) route, adding San Francisco (SFO) flights from March 6.
American is the only US airline offering three classes of service on transcontinental routes.
The airline is also planning to refresh onboard catering options for coast-to-coast flights with an expanded menu and the opportunity to pre-book entrées before departure.
By June 2014 American will run up to 13 daily flights between JFK and LAX, and five a day from JFK to SFO on the new A321T.
