AAE Travel, the joint venture between Expedia and budget airline AirAsia, has appointed Jonathon Sinclair Neal as its next CEO.

Neal moves up from his current position of chief financial officer and will be based at AAE Travel’s Singapore headquarters.

"I am extremely excited to take up this new role at AAE, especially at a time when the whole world is turning to the APAC region as the harbinger of growth. We will continue to create an exceptional customer experience through cutting edge technology and data analytics in the region," Neal said.

Neal, who joined Expedia in 2003, will drive strategic direction for the company’s two brands – Expedia an AirAsiaGo – across its core markets in 12 countries including India, Japan and throughout Southeast Asia.

Neal replaces Kathleen Tan, who stepped down as CEO last summer.
