ABTA to investigate Devon Travel collapse
Accountants at ABTA are investigating the collapse of Lyonesse Holidays, also trading as Devon Travel, which ceased business on Friday (March 21) due to insolvency.
Devon Travel had been trading in Newton-Abbott for over 20 years, before the business was sold last November. It was then renamed Lyonesse Holidays and a further branch was opened in Ramilies Place, London which closed last Monday (March 17).
Devon Travel director Ann Partridge had agreed to stay on at the company after the sale, which she claims was not completed. She told TravelMole: “I’m 70 now and want to retire or semi-retire. To go this way is not nice. We had a good reputation in this town for many years.”
The agency had three full time staff based in Newton-Abbbott, along with two full time staff at the London branch. There are currently a number of the company’s clients overseas, and ABTA will cover their holidays under its financial protection scheme.
