ABTA urges CAA to delay ATOL levy hike
ABTA is urging the CAA to wait until the full cost of the XL failure is determined before deciding how much the ATOL level should be increased by.
As claimants have up until September 2009 to submit their claim forms, ABTA believes the CAA should delay any increase in the APC until the actual cost of the XL failure is known.
ABTA is also calling for the ATOL protection scheme to be extended beyond package holidays.
The association is urging the Civil Aviation Authority to widen it to cover any customer buying a flight plus accommodation.
ABTA chief executive Mark Tanzer said: “This consultation process is a much-needed opportunity for the trade to make its views known and we would urge both CAA and the Government to simplify and widen consumer protection.
“This would benefit both the industry and their customers for whom the present system is confusing and full of holes.â€
