Advantage president predicts challenging year

Advantage Travel Centres’ new president Peter Reglar has warned members to expect a challenging and exciting year in 2005 as the consortium moves towards modernisation. Over the next few months, Advantage is planning to become a profit-based organisation. A vote among members is expected within weeks following a Judge’s decision to grant approval to planned constitutional changes. Speaking at the independent group’s annual general meeting, Reglar said: “We are on the threshold of developing our business to new levels with the changes that will come into place over the coming months, if our members confirm our desire to become a profit-based organisation.” The AGM is expected to be last for Advantage in its current format. Reglar, who will become chairman of the new organisation, said: “The future is bright for those members who recognise the need for change and are alert to the differing patterns and needs of both consumers and business travellers over the coming years. “It is time to be excited and challenged about business and, with new attitudes and a new image, Advantage is set for growth.” Reglar takes over as president from EST Travel’s Roger Smith, who has held the position for ten years. In his closing comments, Smith said: “I leave the organisation stronger than it was a decade ago and in better shape to face the challenges that lie ahead for the independent agent. “I have been fortunate during my time as president to have had the support of a hard working and conscientious group of non-executive directors and staff and I believe our plans for the future will also secure the future of our members.”
