Advice for tourists as Cuba mourns Castro
Tourists to Cuba are being warned that the country has entered a nine-day official period of mourning following the death last Friday of former president Fidel Castro.
The UK Foreign Office said the mourning will last until noon on December 4.
All public events have been cancelled, Cubans have been invited to pay their respects at Plaza de la Revolucion in the capital Havana today and tomorrow and there will be a rally there tomorrow at 7pm.
There will be a second rally in Santiago de Cuba at 7pm on December 3, followed by a private ceremony there on December 4.
The Foreign Office has warned of the possiblility of road closures as a result and suggested tourists monitor local media or get information from their tour operators or hotels about possible road closures ‘or new information from the Government’.
