Aer Lingus confirms Manchester base closure
Aer Lingus has now confirmed the upcoming closure of its Manchester Airport base.
The news was expected after the airline revealed talks began with staff in November 2025.
Aer Lingus says it will officially close on March 31.
While its regional and Dublin services will continue at Manchester, it marks the end of nonstop transatlantic flights to the US and the Caribbean.
The Manchester base employs about 200 pilots and cabin crew.
The Manchester-New York route will end on 23 February.
The airline said it will reaccommodate passengers to Barbados on flights from Dublin during April and May.
Aer Lingus said it is still discussing redeployment options in Dublin and severance packages.
Unite regional official, John O’Neill, said: “Unite is currently in the process of negotiating enhanced redundancy terms and redeployment of staff over to Ireland and we are committed to securing the best possible outcome for our members at Aer Lingus.”
Staff also have a possible option to be redeployed at other IAG airlines like Iberia and British Airways.
Customers booked for travel after March 31 will be offered refunds or rebooking on other routes.
