KUALA LUMPUR – For those in Malaysia who like their tea direct from the source, good news is on the way.

A caravan of 50 horses will cart 50 tonnes of tea leaves overland from Yunnan, China, to Terengganu before making its way to Kuala Lumpur.

The two-month journey begins in September.

“In the old days, horses were used to carry tea leaves overland to every nook and corner in China and we hope to relive the history,” said organising committee chairman Datuk Abdul Aziz Singah.

The 50 horses in the caravan represent the 50 years of Malaysia’s independence.

Malaysian traditional performances, tourism products and handicraft will be shown to the public at various places where the caravan breaks journey.

Abdul Aziz said that after passing through Yunnan, the caravan would spend time in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand before heading to Terengganu.
