Agents can get 10% for pre-booking tours
A website has been launched in the UK that lets agents and consumers book sightseeing trips abroad.
Viator.com has an inventory of over 4,500 tours in 40 countries. The tours include tickets to see attractions like the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Alcatraz in San Francisco, or longer tours like a cooking course in Umbria, or out-back safari in Australia.
Viator is already established in Australia and the US, and launched in the UK in July. Viator chief executive, Rod Cuthbert, told TravelMole: “Only four percent of our bookings were from the UK in July, then eight week’s later that shot up to 12 percent.”
Tickets for the tours and attractions are bought by Viator at negotiated wholesale rates, then sold to consumers or agents at the supplier’s RRP. When agents book tours through Viator, they get a ten percent commission on the booking.
Mr Cuthbert said: “All suppliers are pushing down commissions, like the airlines, making agent’s lives a misery. We talked to a lot of agents before launching the agent section of the website, and found out they wanted something simple, like being able to browse without filling out their details first”.
Once the booking is made, the agent or consumer receives email confirmation and can print out a voucher which acts as a ticket to the tour or attraction.
