Agents urged to get familiar with Lacock
Where? Precisely. Chances are you’ve never heard of this picturesque Wiltshire village, but you’d better get to know it fast because it is the up-and-coming European hot spot.
Well, according to TripAdviosr, that is.
The latest in a long list of bizarre offerings from the online travel review site suggests Lacock abbey’s appearance in period TV dramas in recent times have catapulted the sleepy village to the top of its list of fastest growing travel hot spots.
Sounds unlikely doesn’t it, but not as unlikely perhaps as number four on the list, Tarporley in Chesire and number nine, Doncaster in South Yorkshire. Yes, we said Doncaster.
"Although the past year has seen consumer travel confidence grow, setbacks such as the volcanic ash cloud and airline strikes may explain why nine of the top 10 emerging hotspots for British travellers are in the UK," said TripAdvisor spokesperson Emma O’Boyle.
"Brits are clearly rediscovering domestic travel and realise there’s an awful lot to see on a weekend break without leaving the country."
Quite. But Doncaster? Really?
