Agents using GDSs more effectively
NFO Plog research that found travel agents are increasing their use of GDS to gather information on hotels is “good news,”says Bruce W. Mainzer, senior vice president for TravelCLICK.
He told TravelMole: “Nearly 90% of travel agents say they are using GDS and GDS shopping displays as much or more today than two years ago. That’s good news because they‚ve stopped using phones and fax.”
“They‚re now getting real time, up-to-date information,” he added.
NFO Plog research also found agents reporting increased use of hotel property websites compared to two years ago.
The travel agent GDS marketplace is the largest single source of electronic business for the hospitality industry. This year, estimates are that agents will book $11.5 billion in room revenues compared to total online consumer bookings via the internet of $7.5 billion.
The Chicago-based TravelCLICK is a provider of solutions to help hotels and other travel industry suppliers maximize net revenues from electronic distribution companies. NFO Plog is a 30-year-old travel research company with offices in California and New Jersey.
