Central Asia carrier Air Astana has announced a big expansion to its summer schedule.

Focused mostly on its Astana hub, there will be increased frequencies to Beijing and Urumqi in China, Istanbul and London.

Tashkent, Uzbekistan and Tbilisi, Georgia will also gain more capacity as well as several routes in Russia.

Air Astana will also resume service to Kiev, Ukraine from June 2, 2017.

The opening of the new terminal at Astana will cement it as a leading hub for Central Asia, the airline says, which operates about 400 flights per week from the airport.

"Air Astana is delighted to announce a major expansion of services from Astana this summer, with much improved network connectivity between destinations in Asia, Central Asia, Caucasus, China, Europe and Russia," said Peter Foster, president and CEO of Air Astana.

"Our passengers will travel smoothly through the new international terminal at Astana Airport, which is opening in time for the influx of visitors to Astana EXPO 2017."

The airline is official air carrier for Astana EXPO 2017.
