Air Canada reaches Sabre agreement
Air Canada finally signed a new distribution system with Sabre Travel Network.
The agreement when it begins 5 July has the airline signing up for four years at the Direct Connect Availability level.
Air Canada will make all of its travel agency published fares available to Sabre travel agents in Canada, including its Freedom, Latitude, Fun and Tango web fares.
Approximately 60% of the air travel bookings by travel agents in Canada through a GDS are made with the Sabre system, according to company offcials.
“This agreement clearly reinforces the value of the agency channel and the partnership between Air Canada and Sabre Travel Network,” said Joe Herzog, division vp and general manager, Sabre.
“I think everybody came to an understanding that we needed to move forward and respond to the marketplace need for GDS efficiency,” said Marc Rosenberg, Air Canada’s vice president, sales and production distribution.
Mr Rosenberg said Air Canada would now negotiate with its three other GDS providers.
