Air China to launch Beijing to Brisbane flights

Saturday, 20 Sep, 2017 0

Brisbane tourism officials are celebrating a big win after securing the first direct flights from Beijing.

Air China will start flying four times weekly from Beijing to the Queensland capital from December 11.

Air China will use Airbus A330-200 jets on the route.

The service is expected to generate about A$190 million into the local economy.

"Securing flights from China’s capital city for the first time is a big coup for Queensland, opening up new opportunities to tap into this valuable market," said Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk.

"This also enables Chinese tourists to choose Brisbane as their entry point to Australia while also providing easy access to many of our other destinations in Queensland. We know the best way to grow tourism in Queensland is to secure more direct international flights."

The State Government chipped in financially to secure the new flights, said Brisbane Airport chief executive Julieanne Alroe.

"These services are crucial for growing and supporting Queensland’s important tourism, trade, business and education industry sectors, while making our city and state a prime gateway for Chinese visitors. Quite simply, these new services would not have been secured without the financial support provided by the State Government and matching funds from industry partners."

Brisbane becomes Air China’s third Australian destination after Sydney and Melbourne.
