Air India plans to resume international flights in June
Air India will not resume international flights until early June, nearly a full month after India’s current lockdown ends.
All flights are grounded right now after PM Narindra Modi extended the nationwide lockdown until May 3.
Following that, Air India will restart some domestic flights from May 4.
Schedules will be phased in over time with large metro cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, and Bengaluru the first to be served.
"Bookings for select domestic flights for travel from May 4, 2020, and for international flights for travel from June 1, 2020 onwards are open," it said in a website message.
However, India’s ministry of civil aviation still hasn’t officially given the green light to resuming flight operations.
"The Ministry of Civil Aviation clarifies that so far no decision has been taken to open domestic or international operations. Airlines are advised to open their bookings only after a decision in this regard has been taken by the Government, civil aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri tweeted.
Despite this, other Indian airlines reopened bookings last week for post-lockdown flights.
