Air India pondering direct flights to San Francisco, Toronto
Flag carrier Air India is mulling direct flights from India to San Francisco and Toronto later this year.
The state-run airline would operate Boeing 777-200 LR planes, reconfigured for the routes, according to India’s Financial Express newspaper.
"We are planning to introduce direct flight services to San Francisco and Toronto from the winter schedule this year. A firm plan, however, is still being worked out," an airline official said.
Three weekly flights each to San Francisco and Toronto from New Delhi are being considered.
Air India previously flew direct to Toronto but scrapped the service three years ago after incurring big losses.
"The present 235-seater B777-200LRs are in three class configuration – first, business and economy class. However, there is a proposal to reconfigure these planes into a two cabin class," the official said.
Air India currently operates flights to New York and Chicago.
