Air marshal kills passenger

A 44-year-old passenger who claimed to have a bomb in a carry-on bag was shot and killed by a federal air marshal Wednesday on the jetway to an American Airlines plane that had arrived Miami Airport from Colombia, reported the Associated Press.

It was the first time since the Sept. 11 attacks that an air marshal had shot at a passenger or suspect.

The passenger, a U.S. citizen, ran down the aisle of the Boeing 757, who indicated there was a bomb in the bag, was confronted by air marshals but ran off the aircraft, where he was pursued and ordered by marshals to get on the ground, but the man did not comply and was shot when apparently reaching into the bag.

No bomb was found.
