Air travel chaos continues
Air travel disruption continued in the US and beyond, as the New Year holidays came to a close. More than 2,600 US flights were scrapped, part of over 4,100 flights grounded globally by Monday afternoon.
FlightAware said other 8,500 flights were delayed, caused by the Omicron surge as well as a winter storm hitting the mid-Atlantic. Airlines also cancelled nearly 300 US flights scheduled for Tuesday.
Over the weekend about 5,400 flights in the US were cancelled and more than 9,000 worldwide.
Airlines have resorted to paying double or triple pay to pilots and flight attendants to pick up extra flights.
