AirAsia India planning to fly from Delhi
AirAsia India plans to start flying from Delhi in February with proposed services to Bengaluru and Goa.
AirAsia had previously said it had discounted opening a Delhi hub due to the high landing fees the airport imposes, but it is now reconsidering according to Air Asia India’s chief executive officer Mittu Chandilya.
No final decision has yet been made, Chandilya said.
"If AirAsia is to be an effective national carrier it will have to have a hub in North India too," an aviation source told the Business Standard.
Launched earlier in 2014, the carrier flies to Chennai, Kochi, Chadigarh, Jaipur, Goa, Bengaluru and Pune and is expected to take delivery of its fourth Airbus A320 plane next week.
If it goes ahead with the plan, AirAsia will follow new startup Vistara at Delhi, which begins service connecting Delhi with Mumbai and Ahmedabad from January 9, 2015.
