AirAsia offering free flights for Nepal relief effort
Low cost carrier AirAsia is offering free flights for humanitarian workers heading to quake devastated Nepal to help the relief effort.
Long haul arm AirAsia X will provide free seats to all accredited NGOs and humanitarian agencies sending people to Kathmandu.
The offer stands until May 10 and will be assigned based on seat availability, said AirAsia X Group CEO Kamarudin Meranun.
"Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the earthquake in Nepal and we pledge to do what we can to help alleviate grief and distress of the victims, and pray for their safety and well-being," he said in a company statement.
The carrier operates direct flights to Kathmandu from the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur.
Saturday’s 7.9 magnitude earthquake has been described as the country’s worst natural disaster for 80 years and has claimed the lives of more than 5,000 people.
