Monday, 04 Aug, 2016 0
German carrier airberlin plans a sharp increase in flights to the US next summer with new routes and added frequencies.

US flights from its Berlin and Dusseldorf hubs will grow by 50% in summer 2017 with up to 78 weekly nonstop flights.

It currently operates up to 55 flights a week to the US from the two German airports.

The airline is introducing new west coast services from Berlin to San Francisco and Los Angeles and a new route to Orlando from Dusseldorf, beginning in early May 2017.

"At our hub in Berlin Tegel and Dusseldorf, airberlin is the carrier with the highest number of flights to the US already this year. By further enhancing our long-haul network, we continue to strengthen our leading market position and sharpen our profile," airberlin CEO Stefan Pichler said in a statement.

"The further expansion of our US operations as of summer 2017 shows that we are determined to continue on our path to position airberlin as a premium network carrier with a strong US footprint."

In addition Dusseldorf flights to both Boston and San Francisco will be upgraded to daily service while the Berlin-New York JFK will be increased by three flights a week.

The Oneworld member airline will deploy new Airbus A330-200s on the expanded route network.

The airline also flies to Chicago O’Hare, Miami and Fort Myers.
