Airbnb hosts offered ‘free’ Tesla chargers

Thursday, 21 Aug, 2015 0

Automaker Tesla has established a unique partnership with vacation rental platform Airbnb to offer free electric vehicle chargers to over 100 Airbnb hosts.

Chargers will be distributed to established Airbnb hosts located on the West Coast, especially those renting out premium properties.

To be eligible hosts must rent out whole homes rather than a single room, and must have a four-star rating based on at least five bookings.

Airbnb is accepting applications for the chargers through its website enticing hosts to ‘help the Tesla community feel more at home when they’re on the road.’

"In return, we’ll feature your space in our curated wish list of Tesla-ready homes," Airbnb says.

However hosts must still pay a one-time installation fee of between $200 and $900.

Tesla has been trying to make charging stations more ubiquitous  nationwide to encourage more people away from gas-guzzling vehicles.

Tesla has in the past worked with conventional hotels to install more charging stations around the country along popular road trip routes.
