Airbnb warns fans of Super Bowl scams
Airbnb is warning Chiefs and 49ers’ fans to be wary of Super Bowl scams.
It is urging fans to book smart and do their research for stays in host city Miami.
Almost all hotel rooms are sold out while Airbnb says about 35% of listings in Miami-Dade County and Broward County are still available as of Monday.
While scams are rare, there are always people who will try to take advantage during big events, Airbnb says.
They try to lure travelers off the Airbnb platform with cheaper rates.
Airbnb says it will never ask a guest to pay for stays through an email, or via a third-party booker.
This can lead to fake or duplicated listings with no customer protection if a transaction is completed outside the Airbnb platform.
Meanwhile ticket resales for Super Bowl 54 are set to be the most expensive ever.
On Monday StubHub’s cheapest ticket was going for $4,612.
Within hours of the Kansas Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers confirmed for Super Bowl, major airlines added multiple flights from San Francisco, San Jose and Kansas City to Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
