Airbus’ woes continue
Reports from China and the USA say that Airbus is likely to have to pay China Southern $USD250m in compensation for the late delivery of its A380 aircraft, reportedly the biggest payout for any Airbus A380 customer.
Qantas Airways has received initial compensation of $USD77m and it is also reported that Singapore Airlines is seeking compensation of around $USD189m.
Airbus said last week that it has had to push back the aircraft’s already delayed delivery schedule, with the delivery date for the first A380 aircraft postponed to October 2007, with another 13 in delivered 2008 and 25 delivered in 2009.
This effect of this on China Southern is that their five A380’s will not be delivered until 2009 and not in time for the airline to cash in as effectively on the 2008 Beijing Olympics traffic boom.
