Airline fuel shortage due to Katrina?
The Air Transport Association (ATA) says, contrary to some earlier media reports, US airlines are not canceling flights due to fuel shortages from Hurricane Katrina.
Said ATA president and CEO James C. May:
“Reports of significant flight cancellations are just plain wrong.”
He said Katrina has led to slowdowns in the refinery capacity but that the airlines so far are managing their fuel supplies. He said there was no imminent threat of flight cancellations.
He added, however, that fuel supplies could become more critical in the near future.
