Airline hot deals
Cheapest time to fly over holidays
For travelers looking to avoid expensive holiday air fares, fly on Christmas Day and return the following Monday for the cheapest airfares, recommends Travelocity. That will cost an average of $262, the site says. Travelers will spend the most by departing the Monday before Christmas Day and returning the Friday after Dec. 30. “Travelers should avoid Friday, Dec. 23 departures and Friday, Dec. 30 returns over the Christmas travel period – as this is the most expensive itinerary this holiday season. In addition, travelers should keep in mind that some airlines charge surcharges around the holidays, driving fares up. Holiday travel dates with surcharges are: Dec. 22, 23 and 26, and Jan. 2,” the site says. “To celebrate the season,” Travelocity says it is offering travelers a holiday bonus. When a traveler books a qualifying hotel or flight + hotel package by Dec. 15, Travelocity will send a $200 travel coupon that can be used for another trip in early 2012.
United
United Airlines is offering flights from Denver to Jackson Hole from $149 Round Trip* when you buy 3 nights lodging and lift tickets from now until the end of the year. Since opening day, November 28, 2011, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has been opening up new lifts and terrain on a regular basis with over 3600 vertical feet now open, says the airline. That was accompanied by what the carrier termed “excellent ski conditions.” Availability is limited and restrictions apply. The $149 price, for example, does not include taxes and fees.
AAdvantage
American Airlines is giving AAdvantage® members the opportunity to earn double elite qualifying miles for travel on all flights operated by American, American Eagle or AmericanConnection between today and Jan. 31 of next year."I thought to myself, after the latest technological gizmo and peace on earth, what would our AAdvantage members want most during this holiday season," said Maya Leibman, American's outgoing President – AAdvantage Loyalty Program and incoming Chief Information Officer. "Double elite qualifying miles are our way of saying, 'you asked and we listened.'" Customers can qualify for elite status in the AAdvantage program by earning 25,000 elite qualifying miles for AAdvantage Gold® status; 50,000 miles for AAdvantage Platinum® status; and 100,000 miles for AAdvantage Executive Platinum® status in a calendar year.
American
American Airlines has posted a new Bahamas sale that it says makes it less expensive to escape the chill. “Bask in the white sand beaches of Freeport, George Town, and Nassau this winter,” says the airline. Round-trip prices start at $148, but must be booked by December 21. The offer is good for travel from Jan. 6 though Feb. 14. Travel dates are restricted, however.
