Airline seeks legal advice after fracas
Egypt: Charter carrier diverted to Italy after couple row during flight
A charter airline is said to be taking legal advice after it was forced to divert because two British passengers were having a drunken row on board.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, the couple involved were “totally drunk and barely coherent” and allegedly “abusive to other passengers” on the flight from Egypt to London.
The Excel Air Boeing 767 was flying from the resort of Sharm el Sheik to Gatwick last week when the incident took place; the captain diverted the flight to Pescara, in Italy. A
spokesman for the airline told the newspaper: “They started to get verbally and physically abusive and the captain decided to divert to Pescara. I think they had been drinking their own alcohol because the cabin crew were not plying them with drink.”
A spokesman at Pescara airport added: “One of the passengers was causing a disturbance to the other passengers and making a nuisance of himself. When the plane landed his girlfriend asked to get off as well. She was fine and no bother at all.”
