Airlines add routes as Manchester expansion continues
Airlines are continuing to expand operations from Manchester as the airport revealed almost 2.4 million passengers travelled through the terminal last month, a 6% increase on August last year.
Domestic passengers totalled 269,000, up 3.74% and scheduled numbers grew almost 17% to 856,000.
Charter volumes fell 1.55% to 1.28 million.
A Manchester Airport spokesman said: “The huge increase in scheduled traffic is thanks to the launch and success of carriers Jet2.com, Air Berlin and Sky Europe who offer a number of scheduled service to European destinations.”
More routes are also planned. From December 3, Sky Europe is launching a twice-weekly service to Salzburg while Mahan Air, a private Iranian-based airline, is also to operate a twice-weekly service to Tehran, starting on December 10. It will offer business and economy flights on an Airbus A320.
Meanwhile, Jet2 will further expand its operation with a five times a week service to Ibiza from May 20 2006 and Monarch will start a three times weekly service to Mahon in Menorca from March 30.
