Airlines day of highs – and lows
A report in the Adelaide Advertiser says that flight delays flight, aircraft investigations and discount air fares, yesterday was a time of highs and lows for the airline industry.
Low-cost carrier Tiger Airways, coinciding with the launch of its Adelaide-Melbourne services today, released one-way flights for $19.95 between the cities.
The fares are on sale for today only, on the airline’s website www.tigerairways.com and are for travel between January 18 and March 13.
The airline’s inaugural flight arrives in Adelaide from Melbourne at 10.55am, with the first flight out is at 12.25pm.
Adelaide and Brisbane passengers faced delays after technical problems caused budget airline Jetstar to cancel some services.
Spokeswoman Simone Pregellio said 162 passengers on board JQ768 from Brisbane were supposed to leave for Adelaide at 7.30am.
“At 9.15am, the decision was made to cancel (the flight) because of technical issues,” she said. The flight was to arrive in Adelaide at 10.40am and leave for Brisbane at 11.10am.
Among those stuck at Adelaide Airport for at least an hour were Casey Langley who said he was annoyed but said staff handled the situation well.
The delays caused minor disruption in Brisbane with passengers diverted to later Jetstar and Qantas flights or able to receive a full refund.
