Airlines tending to waive last minute holiday rules

Wednesday, 24 Dec, 2009 0

If you’re still planning last minute holiday travel, you will want to know that many US airlines are waiving advance purchase rules for most domestic destinations.

So says Tom Parsons, CEO of Bestfares.com.

"With many business travelers closing down shop and planning to either stay home for the next three weeks for the holidays or travel with the family, the major airlines are now offering no advance purchase airfares for travel," he writes in an e-mail.

Travelers can soon buy tickets for the 48 contiguous states and Canada at the last minute without necessarily paying more, Parsons says.

The airlines that waived their advance purchase requirements are American Airlines, United, Delta, Northwest, US Airways, Frontier, AirTran and Midwest.

Holiday air travelers, however, will continue to pay a premium over the current fare sale prices for the first two months of 2010.

Still, for those shopping last minute fares for the holidays, the change will mean a huge break compared to what they otherwise would have paid, he says.

There are also some restrictions.
