Airport capacity announcement ‘coming shortly’
Transport Secretary Chris Grayling has promised an announcement shortly over airport capacity plans for the south east of England, but said a decision still hasn’t been made.
He told the BBC all of the proposals are ‘well crafted, very interesting, and have great potential’.
"We need to decide which is best for Britain,” he said.
The three options being considered are a third runway at Heathrow, a new runway at Gatwick or an extension of one of Heathrow’s existing runways.
The decision has been postponed several times already and was delayed further after Britain’s vote to leave the European Union.
Following the Brexit vote in June, the final decision was put back until this month.
Last summer, a third runway at Heathrow emerged as the most likely contender but then the decision was delayed for further examination of the environmental impact.
