Airport officials find human head no lucky charm
A Haitian woman has been charged by federal authorities after baggage screeners found a human skull in her checked luggage at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
The woman, a permanent US resident, had a “human head with organic matter inside of her checked baggage,” said custom officials.
Custom officers said the head was apparently used as part of the woman’s voodoo beliefs. Its purpose: ward off evil spirits.
A criminal complaint charges the woman with smuggling a human head into the US without proper documentation, failure to declare the head and transporting hazardous material in air commerce, according to the Associated Press.
The woman, released on bail, faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
